Our Mission & History
To reflect God’s love for all children, The Joom Foundation has spent 18 years sponsoring children in poverty through worldwide organizations World Vision and Compassion International to provide vital financial support. While we strongly believe in the benefits of child sponsorship and would strongly encourage those who are able to also research and participate in sponsorship, we understand that the roughly $43 a month can feel burdensome. In light of this, The Joom Foundation aspires to expand the scope of what it looks like to carry out our mission by creating more flexible and accessible ways to support children in need.
Flexible, Non-Commitment Giving
When donating to us, rather than directly through World Vision or Compassion International’s programs, there is the flexibility to forgo the standard $43 commitment to consistently donate to a child in need. We accept and are greatly appreciative of donations of any value and the total amount is collected and distributed to World Vision and Compassion as part of the contributions from The Joom Foundation.
While the vast majority of our work centers on relief and child sponsorship through these two organizations, we also provide direct support to local charities and relief initiatives when urgent needs arise. The allocation ratio is roughly 80% to partner organizations and 20% to local relief efforts.
And for those who wish to avoid complex registration steps or who would prefer complete privacy, we offer a pathway to support children through complete anonymity. Furthermore, donors have the option to donate appreciated stock directly to us. Giving shares directly allows you to bypass the capital gains tax you would incur by selling the stock first, eliminates the hassle of liquidating shares for cash, and enables you to make a more impactful, strategic contribution with greater financial ease.
How to Get Started
Getting started with The Joom Foundation is as simple as filling out the ‘Get Involved’ form; not to be confused with the ‘Apply Now’ form which is for students who are interested in receiving scholarships from The Joom Foundation.
You will find that this form is very short and only asks the basic contact information of the participant. This is so that The Joom Foundation can reach you and schedule an interview to review the necessary documentation, verify the essential details while carefully assessing the unique circumstances, needs, and aspirations of each applicant.
To be clear, our organization is a Christian organization that works with other, worldwide Christian organizations. This does not mean that applicants must also be Christian or religious in any way. Naturally, those who can better fully understand our mission because of a religious background might consequently align with our goals more; however, we welcome those who are interested, for any variety of reasons, to be a part of supporting children in need and ending multidimensional poverty across the world. A Christian or religious background is not necessary and we warmly welcome supporters from all backgrounds.
At The Joom Foundation, we view giving not as a single transaction, but as a practice of meaningful stewardship; one that honors both the giver and the child whose story is changing. Whether through traditional sponsorship, flexible giving, or simply sharing this mission, there are many ways to be a part of this work. We welcome anyone moved by these goals to join us – in whatever capacity feels right – as we explore how our mission in action can to uplift communities together.
