Small Acts, Lasting Impact: Why Consistency Matters More Than the Size of a Gift

Generosity isn’t measured by the size of a single gift, but by the commitment to keep showing up.

The Power of Consistency Over Quantity

Everything relies on money. The ability to not only survive, but to thrive is unfortunately driven by how well someone can afford the material costs they need and how much surplus is in their finances. So it comes to no one’s surprise that everybody believes that making a ‘real’ difference in a child’s life comes down to signing a huge check, donating an exorbitant amount of money, or building a school from scratch. However, through years of our own experience, The Joom Foundation believes that stability matters more than quantity; we believe that small but consistent acts of generosity can create lasting opportunities for children and communities.

An 18 Year Legacy: The Impact of Long-Term Commitment

The Joom Foundation was founded in 2008, meaning our organization has been sponsoring children through World Vision and Compassion for 18 years. Our sponsorship efforts started very small, with 1 to 2 children being sponsored at most at any given time. But as time passed, so did the number of children, and as more children were being sponsored through our Foundation, children were beginning to graduate out of their respective programs. The financial consistency of $39-43 a month per child was able to provide a steady and uninterrupted education, medical check ups, nutritional resources, and emergency or natural disaster relief. Although, one time donations are always appreciated and do go towards supporting the children, they mostly contribute to emergency needs, whereas consistent aid creates stability for sponsored children to rely on.

How Small Monthly Donations Add up to Big Change

For The Joom Foundation, the average cost to financially support the children we sponsor comes out to a little over $1000 a month. Day-to-day, that breaks down to about $1.43 cents per child across both World Vision and Compassion International. With these funds, children are given the resources to have protection against malnutrition, access to regular medical checkups, and the opportunity for educational support and skills training. It’s important, however, to recognize that The Joom Foundation is an organization that has worked up to sponsoring more than one child. Realistically, however, most people typically sponsor one child at a time, and we strongly encourage anyone who has the heart and the resources to sponsor a child to do so.

Beyond Money: Building Emotional Connections Through Scholarship

And lastly, our continual financial consistency also goes hand in hand with an aspect of emotional consistency that comes with child sponsorships. While sponsors receive information about the child’s or the community’s wellbeing, this emotional consistency is most often done through letters. Letters written to sponsored children don’t have to be long, and often are short, sweet and simple messages that remind them that their sponsor is there to support them.

Starting Your Sponsorship Journey Today

We understand that starting a sponsorship journey can be confusing and overwhelming, but we truly recommend those who want to help children financially the pathway of child sponsorship. You don’t have to wait until you are “wealthy” enough or established enough to make a difference. A little over a dollar every day, and around $40 a month is enough to make an impact both physically and emotionally.
